I remember sending my FIRST child to kindergarten, and my LAST child to kindergarten especially well. They were both very poignant times for me. And I don't think I was ever ready for school to start in the fall. I always wanted a few more weeks to play with my children and kind of resented the state taking over my time with them. It seems like there were always more kites to fly and creeks left to swim in.

Although I remember each of my four babes first day in school, I remember my FIRST child and my LAST child entering Kindergarten especially well. They were both very poignant days for me. I was never quite ready to relinquish my children in the fall and kind of resented the state taking over my time with them. I always wanted a few more weeks to play and explore the mountains behind our home with my four babes. It seems like there were always more kites to fly and creeks to swim in.

WHat did they ask or want? Its been 30 years since my daughter went. She could read already and it freaked them out. They thought she was too young-at 4- so they left it up to me. Thank god I didn't cave and keep her home. She was so shy and small. She is still small but mouthy. So the shyness went away!

My youngest was not ready to start school at 5 (well, since he is a Sept baby, he would have been 4 starting!! YIKES!! NOOOO WAY!!) so I kept him out for another year. Best decision we ever made. I was even willing to keep him home until he was 7 if he wasn't ready...but by Jan the kid turned a corner and was SOOOO ready to be in school. Even tho he is older than most of the kids (there are a couple of other boys in his class who are his same age), He LOOVES school and the work comes very easy for him. He is on the small side for size and he now has the advantage of being ahead of the game academically and mentally, so he is able to hold his own against the bigger kids (which, hopefully, will carry over in high school!)

I hear ya!! Except I had to start the process in January since my DS has an IEP. I put him in a summer program which has helped him tremendously. Now I think he might actually be ready in the fall.
