Tuesday Throwdown

Challenge: Rock n Roll!
Sherrod Studio
Link up with Mr. Linky
Keyword:  SSTT21

My sister surprised me a couple of days ago and announced that they would be coming for a short visit.  (Which is why I actually got going on her quilt! hehe)  They arrived ealier than expected. And I can say for sure, that my kids went to bed later than expected!  I said that I'd drive them late to school, but now I am thinking they will need a nap in order to function in school.  We've had fun with Monopoly, food, hair cuts, shopping, cookies, boys begging for the cinnamon rolls that are going to be for breakfast (ahem!), talent show, bed time, scrabble, "really, go to bed," "I'm telling you, you have to go to sleep!,"  Boggle...

and yes, I finally got my card posted!

Tuesday Throwdown...criss, cross...

Applesauce!

For this Sherrod Studio challenge, make a criss cross card.  Keyword:  SSTT20

Now, I know, we are always trying to make our paper stretch. So I came up with a way to make a crisscross card using one sheet of paper.  Get some double sided paper...that is on the heavy side...4.25 x 12 inches.

Score at 3.25 at each ends.
Then, cut the corners...on each side...about 2 inches from the bottom to the score lines.

Match corner angles on both sides....

Then, fold in...and you have the envelope...without the bulk.

You can make a belly band or decorate as you wish.  My finished insert is 5.25 x 3.5 inches.

Get ready b/c Sherrod Studio is getting ready for their April release!

Tuesday Throwdown

Pocket cards are so fun!  Today, I used some Paper Temptress papers.  This double sided kraft is text weight. But that turns out to be perfect for a pocket card. They can get pretty bulky and you know that means added postage.  But this lightweight paper is great way to remedy that problem!

These stars were embossed in gold embossing powder.  And the astronaut seems to be on a space walk!  This set can be purchased from Sherrod Studio...and it is on sale...40% off!  (No coupon required!)

Here is an upclose picture so you can see the great textures in the papers.  I used feltweave for the image and insert.  Use keyword:  SSTT19 for online galleries and link up with Mr. Linky on the Sherrod Studio Blog.  And, I hope YOUR day is a blast.

Sherrod Studio's Tuesday Throwdown

It's another day and another NEW digi set from Sherrod Studio.  AND...another Tuesday Throwday.  This week...flap your wings and make a FLAP CARD.  I used the new set called "Flower Girl" for this challenge.

Flap cards are smaller than the typical handmade card...but they are a lot of fun!

I received this awesome double sided (and thick) paper from a big sis swap...perfect for this image.  On the inside, I used 1/2 of a velcro dot to secure the flap. You can use 2 way zig pen or a small magnet as well.

Again, check out all the DTs blogs and enter to win this sweet, sweet, sweet digi set.

Post your own flap card on the Sherrod Studio Company blog and use Keyword: SSTT18 for online galleries!

Tuesday Throwdown

Can you believe how quicly the weeks go by?  Yikes!  The other day, I was telling my 6 year old, that in 18 months, he will be 8 years old and able to be baptized.  DD thought that 18 months was just such a long time away. And...how different are our perspectives right now!

But...Being Tuesday...it's the Sherrod Studio Tuesday Throwdown. This week, we are asking you to make a shadowbox card. I can't believe that a couple of years ago, I made these for my Christmas cards! haha. But really, they are easy to make and fun to give. Now...I am not sure if they are fun to receive, b/c I've never received one!!

Although yesterday was a snowday, I had already decided to use this By the Seashore stamp set.  Be sure to link up your card to the Sherrod Blog and use keyword:  SSTT17.

SSTT16...distressed

Today's Sherrod Studio challenge is all about the distressed look. Although, I think my card looks more like grunge!

The graphics on this Rock n Roll set are soooooo cool!

Inside view.

I used Paper Temptress papers for this card.  They have the neatest new papers!  Double sided kraft. Here I used the Cranberry Brown Bag.  I stamped "rock n roll" on the kraft side and folded the edges over to reveal the cranberry.  Paper Temptress carries 5 different variations of this text weight kraft paper.  You can do some neat layering with this stuff.  And the Citron Brawny RC100 is a great paper to use as your base.  It is study yet not too heavy.  Both types of paper take craft ink and embossing very well.

Now it's your turn to distress a card.  Link up on the Sherrod Blog and use SSTT16 for online galleries!  Then check out the Sherrod Sale!  40% off...you can get nearly 2 of the price of one! Great way to add to your stamp collection.

CAS

Clean and Simple is the name of the game for this week's Sherrod Studio's Tuesday Throwdown!

Inspired by the SCS CAS challenge, I chose candy colored inks to create my winter butterflies!

Sherrod's Tuesday Throwdown

This Tuesday's challenge is PAPER PIECING!! I love paper piecing.  You can get so much depth and texture...without doing the work (accept for the cutting and gluing.)

Friendship Blooms by Sherrod Studio has some large flowers and leaves which work nicely for this technique!  I love to emboss all my line images.  This also makes it easie to cut out the image for paper piecing.

Now you can see why I had to hold the card when photographing it. Only the top square is the "card."

Now, it's your turn!  Be sure to post your paper pieced card on the Sherrod Studio Blog. Keyword:  SSTT14.

Stampmyart on Splitcoast gifted me this awesome siggy name for my blog...or anything else I want to use it on. Thanks a zillion!  I had my eye on these...and this one is so sparkly!

It's just a Monochromatic Tuesday

...with the Sherrod Studio Tuesday Throwday #13!

So simple...but I added the guava as a "neutral" for some spice!  What do you think about them apples?

A chance to win a Sherrod Studio set with added goodies!

Sherrod Studio also has a charity stamp and it is called "Gracie."  A portion of the proceeds is donated to The Christmas Box International Lifestart Initiative.  In today's Tuesday Throwdown challenge presented by Sherrod Studio, we are challenging you to "randomly stamp."  I took this to mean "make your own patterened paper."

This is a fun set for kids' valentines as well!  Most kids aren't into heart and luvey dovey.  But a cuddley teddy with the sentiment "hugs n kisses" would delight many of them!  I chose to stamp medium circles and then embossed the teddy on top.  A gold sakura pen was used for the bow ties and stickles for the gold accents on each circle.

Be sure to check out the other Design Team and stop at the company blog to leave a comment in order to get a chance at that fabulous pile of candy!!  Link your "random stamping" card or project with the keyword:  SSTT12.  Until then...Hugs n Kisses from me!

Dawn...that's me!

Tuesday Throwdown...SSTT11

This week's Sherrod Studio Throwdown is perfect for my new 2010 "thing to do."  SEW!  Use real or faux stitching on a card.  I have been wanting to do this forever but haven't tried.  Today was the day!

I decided to keep it relatively simple to show-off the awesome sentiment from Friendship Blossoms.  Highlighing some words adds interest as well.  The stitching was simple.  I left long tails of thread on each end of the sewing stitch and then taped them to the back of the panel to hide them.

This is one of my favorite cards to make. Okay, so I admit it, there are many "favorites."  I cut 3/4 inch off of the right side and then punched a slit.  The top layer of the card then slides into the slit.  That semi-circle area is great for buttons, brads, ribbon...and this lovely embellishment that I recycled from a card someone sent me!  (Thanks, Joyce!)

Be sure to click over to the Sherrod Blog to see snippets and links to the other Sherrod Studio Designer cards!  Use keyword SSTT11 for online galleries.  Oh, and Mr. Linky is on the blog as well.  (Scroll down to the Paper Makeup Sneak peek!)

**counting this as my 2nd sewing project of the year!

Gate Cards...Tuesday Throwdown Challenge from Sherrod Studio

Kim, owner of Sherrod Studio, gave us a break over the holidays on the challenges.  THANK YOU!  While I enjoy doing them, I still think Christmas is for friends, family and fun.  Stamping can wait.  Today's challenge is to make a GATE CARD.  I have always enjoyed cards with unusual openings.  Gate Cards can be done is so many different ways.  Be sure to check out the Sherrod Studio Blog for links to the other designers' and their take on the challenge.

(Okay, these are fun to open but not fun to photograph!!) I chose to use Winter Wonderland's Penguin Pair!  Perfect if you live in a snowy region of the world...or if you just wish your Christmas was white.  (Hey, here in MI, we did NOT have a while Christmas this year!)

Presto magic...the two flaps open to reveal this inside! Nope, your eyes do not deceive you.  This CS is two sided.  Paper Temptress has double sided cardstock (105 lbs) which is perfect for a gate fold.  I chose to use the  Sorbet Blue Ice/ Grape sheet, which is great for icy themed cards.

Some of the black I used is Ruche and here is an upclose pix of the texture.  I love using little pieces for added interest.  The black mat is Eclipse Black.

Link up with Mr. Linky on the Sherrod Blog and use Keyword:  SSTT10. Isn't that perfect for the first challenge of 2010! haha..Way to plan, Kim!

A color and sketch combo

Today, Sherrod Studio has a color combo for you to try!  Blue, green, vanilla and chocolate are the colors to be used.  But, Friday was a sketch challenge brought to you by Paper Makeup.  So, here is a doubled up combo for you.

I used the awesome set called "Rock n Roll."  One nice thing about this set is that it has this rockin' swirlie stamps which is perfect for the background.  Stamping color on color gives you texture without taking away from the focal point.  Remember to use Mr. Linky on both sites to link up your creations...SSTT09 for the color combo...and M4TW07 for the sketch.  And yes, the next time I stamp, I'll have to dig out some PMS rubber!

12.10.2009

They've LANDED!!

Yep...the new stamp sets from Sherrod Studios have landed.

When I first started stamping, it was with rubber.  And I became, regretfully, a rubber snob.  But Sherrod has made me see the error of my ways.  It is so fun to make the sentiments curve in the way I want them to be.  The "Reach for the stars" sentiment is straight. But I curved it as I layed it onto the acrylic block.  Very fun!

I used some Paper Temptress paper for the stars.  Autumn Harvest Text has a shimmer that is perfect for the nestie die cuts.  Be sure to hop on over there to see her specials as well.  Patricia has recently uploaded some new papers!

Remember to fill up those carts...esp. since Kim is having a holiday sale...25% off!  Yeah!

Time for the Tuesday Throwdown with Sherrod Studio

Kim is challenging us to create a card holder with cards today.  Since I am crafting some lovely wooden ornaments, I thought that some 3x3 cards would make a nice addition to the gift.  I altered the mini pizza box so that the finished dimension is 3.25 inches square and one inch deep.  Perfect for about 6 cards!

Note the stars on the side.  Ooh, this is a fun set. I love solid stamps.  Hope Sherrod Studio plans more in the future!

And...some of the cards.  With this set, it is easy to alter each card by switching out a patterened tree or holiday sentiment.  The stars were embossed in gold.  When uploading to online galleries, use the keyword:  SSTT07.  Be sure to Link up with Mr. Linky on the Sherrod Studio Blog.  Did you know that the new release comes out on December 10th?  And there are 2 days of sneak peeks before hand.
