Barbie and Fairy Clothes

So, I'm finally giving DD a bday party and she wanted it to be a Barbie party. We asked all the little girls to bring their favorite Barbie dressed in her least favorite outfit. I had planned on making felt barbie outfits for each doll that the girl could beautify with glitter glue, sequins, studs and rhinestones. But since we used Fairy invites, Fairy plates, Fairy noise makers, Fairy gift bags, Fairy party favors, I decided to design a fairy outfit for the girls to decorate. Luckily I had plenty of felt and other material for the wings.

My DD and her friend T** insisted that the girls would only like pink or purple outfits. So this gold fairy is the reject/example. I asked DH to take a picture of it and somehow it became a pix of DD holding the doll. All the same, I'll snap a better picture later. She LOVES this outfit and was ready to decorate one today. The outfit is surprisingly simple to make, now that I worked out the kinks. I told my mom that everyone was getting one of these doll outfits for Christmas...everyone...the kids, adults...with some glitter glue so they can decorate their own outfit.

I made the wings out of silver lamay and stiff lacy material that was left over from a Halloween costume a few years ago. The top is altered from a Barbie pattern. The skirt is basically petal shaped pieces sewn to a 5.5 inch long, 1 inch wide grossgrain ribbon. I used Velcro for the fastenings. And fray check is a must...so you don't have to sew all those pesky tiny edges!

Of course the Barbie needed to be seen with Mckenna. They are a matched set...too beautiful for words. Happiness just radiates from her, doesn't it?
