The Granny Awards

Earlier this school year, my 5th grader came home very much excited about the 5th grade play.  Mrs. Shone, the music teacher, didn't do a production very often. And b/c this class was so well behaved, she thought she'd try it.  Of course, my son wanted to try out of some part. I figured I'd give him a "leg up" and volunteer my help to the teacher during this production. You can imagine my exasperation when I heard that he neglected to LEARN the lines in order to try out. GRRRRRRRRR!  But I had already started with the process of being the stage mom, so I kept it up. A while later, my son did get a part. One of the biggest parts in the play. It just didn't have a solo to try out for.  For about 8 weeks, I was in the school gym every Friday morning for 2 hours and again after school for another nearly 2 hours.  Honestly, I was afraid it wasn't going to come together. But the dress rehearsal on Friday morning for the entire school was a hit!  My son was "Snoozy" in "The Granny Awards," a spoof on the Grammy Awards and a lot of fairy tales.  When the fairy godmother waltzed in to awaken Snoozy, the entire school was shouting "WAKE UP SNOOZY!" right along with her...3 times, getting louder each time.

I figured it was probably my place to be sure that the music teacher was thanked and appreciated. So, between the dress rehearsal and the actual performance, I bought a bouquet of yellow daisies and made this card:

These Doodlefactory images from Starving Artistamps were perfect for the fairytale characters in the play: the big, bad wolf, "helpers" (which had dwarf names), several princesses, jack and the bean stalk, the 3 little pigs, hickory-dicory-dock clock, jack and jill, etc, etc.

The inside was too clever. I wish I had stopped to snap a shot.  I stamped "Once upon a time" from the Antidepresstamps line...and then wrote in..."there lived a wonderful music teacher...etc, etc."  Then, as the kids came into the school on Friday night, I had them all sign the large card.  (5.5x 8.5 inches)

My Snoozy even had a nighttime cap with stripes, just like those little dwarfs on the card.  I'm hoping Mrs. Shone decides that next year's class (and my daughter) should also have a production!  I've already offered my help!

So glad you enjoyed the experience Dawn. I loved the productions that I did at least once, usually twice a year. I was very grateful too to have a wonderful group of parents like you who helped in innumerable ways. It was the aspect of school I missed the longest.

Sounds like a fun time was had by all. I'm sure your son's music teacher will always cherish such a sweet and thoughtful card.
