June 5th

Did you know today was DONUT DAY???

Duncan Donuts and Krispy Kreme are giving away free sweetness! haha. I went to a yoga class today. So I'll stay ahead of the game and skip the donuts.

Let's give a shout out for PMS's new...

MONSTERS!!

And are they sporty this month!! I was really happy to get Soccer Bunny as my monster. As a soccer coach for 5 year olds, this funny guy will make some fun cards for the team.

I pulled out a template which I had created a couple of months ago. Don't you think shaped cards stand out in a crowd! Our team/league colors are yellow and green but I added the orange for playfulness. (One card down, five to go...) These monsters are the playful kind, of course! Be sure to check out the other monsters in this month's line up on Paper Makeup's Blog.

If you like sweets, be sure to check on the company blog tomorrow..and that's ALL I'm going to say!

Next up...Nature's Song

I sure hope today dawns beautiful wherever you live! Paper Makeup's sneak peek is showcasing a new set called "Nature's Song." It has some lovely sentiments and trees and birds. The rubber is so thick on these stamps that I had no problem what so ever when stamping this birdie image. (Of course, I did rub the stamp on my jeans first!)

Be sure to check out the PMS blog to see some wonderful cards by the design team! If you leave a comment, you will be in the running for your own Nature's Song Set!!

On correcting others' grammar

Today as E* and I were heading home from the grocery story, I flipped on NPR and heard the very tail end of an interview that Terry Gross had with Jeff Nunburg. (I have yet to check on the spelling on these names.) Jeff is a linguist. And I loved what he said. I need to get the exact quote and I want to listen to the entire interview if I can find it in a podcast. But basically, he said that if your self-esteem is based on your knowledge of grammar in the english language, and you correct people b/c you know the proper way, they you need to reevaluate where you get your self-esteem. That you are missing out on the bigger picture.

I loved it. And certainly, I will be looking into that exact quote. I'm sure most of us have had that annoying family member or friend or coworker who HAS TO continually correct your grammar when you speak. And in a sacastic, un-needful way. Boy is it irritating, right? A name or two instantly pops into your head. Well, the next time someone corrects my grammar, I am going to remember this linguist's words and remember that the one correcting has her esteem based on a 7th grade English course! haha. (How do you type in the "raspberry" sound you make when you are blowing someone off? haha)

Needless to say, I enjoy Jeff Nunburg's commentaries that air from time to time on NPR. Thanks for those words, Jeff!

Starving Artistamps meets Van Gogh

...Irene, the artist who designs the Doodlefactory Images has colored in some images using a pointillism technique. The Technique Junkie Newsletter joined up with Starving Artistamps to unveil the technique called VanGogh and a contest. (Art majors out there...think pointillism and Seurat. Poor Seurat misses his 15 minutes of fame in the stamping world. haha)

In these examples, I used stamps from FairyTale. The sqiggles in the background are accessories from the dragons in that set. (The banner is from Urban and "treasured" is from a Topics sentiment set.)

Now, you want to stamp fast b/c the contest ends June 15th.

And what can you win?

A complete unmounted collection of our current new DoodleFactory release Oh Baby, You're Super! Containing the following stamp sets:

Oh Baby!
Super Parents
Neighborhood
Oh Baby, You're Super sentiments!

And a FULL YEAR free subscription to the technique Junkie's Newsletter!

Roaringly Great New Release from PMS

This month's Paper Makeup Stamps release is bigger than ever. And today's sneak peek is all about the dinosaurs (drawn by Dustin Pike). ROAAAAAAAAAAAAR!! I used the Dino Essentials set which has some fun sentiments and accessory stamps to coordinate with the single dinosaurs.

My rubber didn't arrive in time for the cards. But using a digi image turned out to be a great help when I wanted to line up this old bones evenly!

These die cuts help give the composition color while keeping the layout relatively simple. Crystal effects made the ooey, gooey lava shiny and a bit more defined. I used color pencils with lots of hues to color in the ash blast and volcano.

In the left hand sidebar, you can click on the blogs for other PMS designers who are presenting Dino Peeks today! (If you right click, you can open their blog in another window to make it easier for your viewing pleasure.)

Dawn K, Lisa M, Mindy, Kim, Tangii, Shaela, Lisa K, Jamie, Katie, Christi (Or checkk out the PMS blog for all the pix in place!)

Be sure to look at PMS's blog for tomorrow's neat new set...tweet!

INcolors

This year's SU incolors are soon to be retired. But today's color challenge was to use of them: ridinghood red, tango tangerine, kiwi kiss. I added the Baja breeze for the card base.

(You can bet that I was holding my breath as I waited to see what orientation it would upload as! haha)

Neck Exercises

Time for some blogger neck exercises b/c I simply can not make this file, or 4 others just like it....upload correctly to blogger. This week's Corrosive Blog Challenge was to make a sympathy card with flowers on it. Pretty appropriate since my little family and I went to a viewing last night.

Popping up with Paper Makeup

Looks can be deceiving for today's PMS challenge. It is based on a spiral pop up card. You can be inspired by the tutorial, the card or the spiral shape. Well, I went with my own favorite way of making popup cards...along with the spiral shape. The spiral shape went into the darling snails!!

But, the popup card takes the cake!

I know, I know...darling!! Wanna know how?

Feeling better mentally and spiritually with DRS Designs

This week's challenge is to make a Get Well Soon card or project. Saddly, I do not own any DRS Designs "get well" images that I can show you...and least not this week. (hehe) BUT...I did get this fantastic sentiment/poem which might be used to cheer up the poor in spirit, the depressed, the frustrated. Some of us are physically ailing, while others suffer mentally.
I hope every one is physically and mentally well this week...stamp on my friends! (Please use keywords DRSC22, when uploading to online galleries!)
