On Honesty

Lately, I have thought about "honesty." People, in general, are just not honest. We let things slip and slide to make ourselves look better or to feel better.

Ruth Vest, a woman I used to work for, would often quote:

Oh! what a tangled web we weave
When first we practice to deceive!

(FYI--written by Sir Walter Scott.)

She quoted it so frequently as things would come to light in that office setting, that I can still hear her voice echoing in my ear.

Now, I am not posting this for any particular reason. So there really is no finger pointing. Although I can certainly tell a few scandelous stories right now. But...as I have contemplated and mused over this idea...of being honest in all my dealings with all my fellow men, I realize that I want to be honest. To live my life with integrity. So that others would think me to be honest in all things and could trust me.

Because once you lie and get tangled up in lies and half truths, you become untrustworthy. (Oooh, and don't get my started on half truths...they are worse than out right lies in my opinion.) And trust, is one of the hardest things to earn back.

Angel Eyes

You know, you can find pretty much anything online these days. Tonight on youtube.com, I was looking up old songs that I used to listen to in high school. For my high school sweetheart and I, "Angel Eyes" by Jeff Healey Band was "our song." It's sort of a one-hit wonder I suppose. But then, that just might be the best sort of love song. haha.

On youtube, you can post comments after videos and there I read that Jeff Healey had passed away. More investigation revealed that he died early in March of this year. Perhaps he was really only a one-hit wonder to high schoolers and their music. B/c his list of accomplishments is longer than I previously knew. He was an impressive muscian, despite being blind.

So, I suppose this is my tribute to him. Thanks for performing such a song for a love sick teenager in Ohio. haha. Thanks for the memories. Back then, pretty much all my memories are connected with a song.

I believe it was Homecoming Dance at Avon Highschool, during my Junior year, when my boyfriend took a cassette tape of this song to the DJ and asked him to play it with a dedication to me. (Shall I post of pix of us that night? haha Maybe I'll dig one out and scan it in. Maybe!)

Here is another memory connected to this song:

One day, I was in a drug store with my mom and sister Cara. We were picking out hair dye...choosing a new color. And all of the sudden, I started BAWLING. My mom was frustrated with me and said "Hey, if you don't like the color, then don't color your hair!" (Or something to that effect.) Well, I had started crying b/c this song had just started playing in the store. It had been a couple of years since my boyfriend and I broke up, but it was painful to hear "our song" again. Just the first few notes started the tears...probably even before my mind comprehended what the song even was. I said I was love sick didn't I!

Of course I can chuckle over it now. Don't you just love music! It certainly does stir up emotions...of all kinds!

No Love For The Monkey

So, I have no idea why there is a LOVE-HATE relationship with this sock monkey set and stampers everywhere. They either love it or hate it...so it seems. My friend Kelly H HATES it. HATES, HATES, HATES it... a lot.

I decided I would make a card with it that she could enjoy. And this is what came out of it! haha.

Stuff and more stuff...

First of all...

HELLO LURKERS!!

haha It has been fun to read your comments. I'm starting to think I'll need to have some blog candy for the lurkers...to entice them to post more! (Let me think on it.)

Ellen inquired about the unmounted system. I saw it for the first time at the Stamp Expo and on a whim bought some pages to try. LOVE IT!! My buddy Jen has unmounted all of her sets (gulp!) and uses it and is happy with it. Here are some pix I snapped of the sheets full and blank.

Two new doodle guys...Ezner and Mimo!

Basically, they are pieces of laminated paper...stiff paper, with 3 holes cut out. You can put them in binders or buy a special "box" for them. The box would be nice b/c then if a stamp fell off, it would be in the box still.

Jen has a buyer on ebay that she found to be a good price. I will have to find out who the seller is. But StarvingArtistamps sells this system too. I paid one dollar a sheet for mine at the expo...same price on their site for non tabbed. (Yeah b/c I can add that to my wishlist. ) Now I know I saw the "boxes" for them at their booth but it appears to be a "show special" b/c I do not see it on the site.

But, if you are Frugal Franny...like me...Just try laminating a piece of heavier stock cardstock. I think that if you were super organized, you could stamp the image on the paper, then laminate so you'd know where each individual stamp belonged. Though, if you are indecisive like me, you arrange and rearrange things often enough so that's not helpful. Jen said that she puts a paper protector in between sheets. Inside the paper protector she slides in a stamped piece of paper of the stamps that belong on the page. Does that make sense? Maybe I can get Jen to snap some pix for me to explain better...Check back.

Umm...

Hankasaurus...My BIL Hank had 4 wisdom teeth plus one more extracted on Friday. I told him last week that it was worse than giving birth...and I think he would agree. He's miserable and thinks there is an infection. (Not worried too much just yet b/c when I had it done, I thought I had one too b/c the pain is immense.) So I stamped up some fun cards to cheer him up this week. (Don't look if you are reading this now Hank!!)

The Mimo card is esp. for Hank. He is a graphic designer/artist...loves numbers and fonts like that...and quirky, fun things. Mimo will make him smile! I just might need to give the "Need a Lift?" card to Ken b/c he's bothered by work and irritable. Also, Best Fishes is awesome...might have to figure out how to get a better photo. I know, I know, I've said that a zillion times!

Okay, I think I've typed enough for now. Later Lurkers!!
