Early to bed, early to rise...

Makes more time stamp a card!...right? haha

Last night, I was pretty tired...didn't even get the dishes done from dinner. Thought I'd go back to do them and then forgot. I took a sumptuous bubble bath with some Bath and Body Works bubble bath. I think it was cammomile and lavendar...which is supposed to bring on sleep. And sleep I did. Though fitful b/c Ken woke me up asking me some questions and then I got up a few times early, early in the morning. Finally, I just got up. Ate. Cleaned the kitchen. Stamped the Friday Challenge of Limited supplies.

Limited Supplies as in...supplies that the basic, newbie stamper would have in their collection...stamps, paper, ink. Wendy had us using brads since they are one of the very first embellishments most stampers aquire. We were to use the brads in our focal image...not as corner decorations.

Limited Layers, Limited embellishements...

So it's still not 6 am...I'm going to bed!

Blue Bird of Happiness

I made a card for today's Ways to Use it challenge...Use birds on your card. It's the latest trend I guess...BIRDS. I liked my last card so well, that I used it again.

I actually really like bluebirds. I've thought about collecting them on occasion...but never do. This year for my mom's bday, I found a super great Jim Thorpe figurine with bluebirds on it. But I let me sister, whose nickname is J-Bird, give it to my mom. Oh, I just remembered my sister Cara gave me these for my bday last year:

So...I AM already collecting! haha Thanks Cara. That's probably the best way to collect. So things are special. I did buy a christmas ornament a couple of years ago that was a bluebird of happiness...I'll have to dig it out and snap a shot.

Well, it's to be a scorcher today. I am picking up some friends and we'll spend a day at the pool....though I need some pool snacks. Tuesday we swam at their pool...and they were much more prepared than we are right now. Off to scavenger!

I've been using this new (to me) brand of stamps. Starving Artistamps sells a line called Doodlefactory which is so fresh, whimsical and yet very clean images. Not primative as so many other "new" companies sell. I just LOVE all these critters and creatures.

Good luck! You'll be hooked too!

You can win me (hehe) the above set plus TWO sheets of sentiments. I promise to stamp YOU a ton of fabulous cards!

User malfunction

I think I broke my sizzix last night. I'm a dweeb...don't buy sizzlits...don't trade for sizzlits...don't use sizzlits...

Oh well. I guess that just means I have a better reason to buy a cuttle bug...esp since I heard that they cut reg. Sixxiz dies. Where have I been for all these months??

Suggestions? Comments? Teasing? Bring it on!

Sketch challenge...

B/c the sketch challenge was posted at the stroke of midnight...or a few minutes later...I stayed up to design my card!

Why did I sell this set??? haha...b/c My mom has it and I figured I'd just borrow hers! Another set I need to add to my list!

EDT: I have no idea why this is sideways. I've tried reloading the pix 4 times! If your neck doesn't bend sideways so well, click here to see the card the correct way!

YW Girls' Camp Auction

>
This Saturday, the Young Women at Church are having an auction to raise money for their summer camp. It's supposed to be mainly a service auction. Girls might volunteer their time to babysit...and you can bid on it. Or in the past, families have donated an afternoon at their backyard swimming pool. Or perhaps someone is an electrician and will donate their time to fix something at your house. Then all the money raised goes to the girls' funds. Of course, there is a big dinner too.

So I made this gift set to donate. Our school district mascot is the Dragon. I'm pretty sure this will be oohed and aahed over. I can see it being used by a middle or high schooler or used as a teacher gift. It comes with 6 cards that have various sentiments: thanks, good luck, just a note, congrats.

I seriously like this so much that I really don't want to give it away!

PS. I am still working on finding time to make the handmade PIFs. Patience is a virtue!

Get some Blog Candy!

Or...at least a try for some.

Renee...my fabulous cyber friend is offering up a delicious dose of rubber, acrylic, ink and paper!

Click on her name and try to get in on the action!

And Deb has some Patriotic treats. Mention my name to give me a little extra chances to win will you!

Life Lessons Learned at the Barrett Bungalow

Not too many minutes have passed since M* came up to me SOBBING about breaking something. I was upstairs at the computer during the Hatch Batch weekly family IM session.

"What was broken?" I asked.

sob, sob, sob....snuffle...sob....

"Your pie!" sob, wail, wail, sob...

The day of my Grandfather's funeral, my sister Jocelyn gave me my birthday present early. It was this glass lemon meringue ornament. To remember that BonPapa had a love for lemon meringue pies. Everyone who knew him, knew that was his favorite dessert!

Oddly enough, I didn't get mad or start hollering at her. Probably b/c she was so visably upset and saddened at what had happened. The ornament hung on an ornament display hook on a shelf in the kitchen. Dad and the 3 kids were playing balls inside the house. Something that they have been told repeatedly not to do. I have said that they could play in the basement or outside. But not upstairs. Ken even said, "Well, I tried to get them to stop and then they convinced me to play along with them." So M* threw the ball, it hit Ken's head and bounced off on the shelf...crashing down the delicate ornament.

At first I really didn't say much, except, "You've been told not to play with balls in the house." And "Ken, the kids are little. You're the adult. They don't convince YOU to break the rules."

A few minutes later, I gathered the balls. (Which was distressing b/c M*'s beach ball is a school reading project. She is to write down the title of the books that she reads this summer.)

A few minutes after that I calmly went back downstairs and informed all 4 ball players that they owed me $3 dollars each to replace, if I could find it, the ornament. C* only had 40cents to his name. Evan did have $2 and some change. M* the money bags, said "but then I'll have to give you my special two dollar bill." Knowing that she had to have more than $3 in her pocession, I said "do you only have a $2 bill and a $1 bill?"

"No, I have a $5."

"Then, give m the five and I"ll give you two dollars in change."

The crying starts...

"But it's a special five dollar bill."

"Why?"

sob, sob, sob..."B/c it's a NEW ONE."

"Well the bank has NEW ONES...when you aquire five more dollars, you can take it to the bank and get the NEW five dollar bill. The same one...the one with the RED FIVE on the back!"

More tears...

Life has a lot of lessons to be learned.

1. Follow the rules.
2. If you break the rules, you are going to pay the consquences.
3. You will have to make restitution on things that you break.

I'm sure in time, she will learn that this pie lesson was simple...compared to what she will undoubtly encounter on the road of life.
