Mudville

There was no joy in Mudville that day...

or in other words...

We lost our first soccer game.

Boohoo. 3-1. Against a team that we narrowly beat 2 weeks ago. Ah well. We still have one more game and then, "SUMMER VACATION, here we come!"

On the more exciting front, I received a little package in today's mail from Aunt Lin, who I have been developing a friendship through our blogs and emails. She sent me and the 3 kids some lovely beaded book marks...which I have yet to photograph.

Also...Finally...I received my Starving Artistamps...yeah!

Isn't that robot adorable!?! Who doesn't have grouchy kids once in a while? Seriously, this is going to come in handy!

Now, they have this one million stamp promo...where you can give them a dollar and the cost of a stamp...and they will send you some surprise stamp. So I added 2 to my shopping card and Voila...I lucked out and received 2 more images from this Urban set. The dog (which I thought was a fox) and the matching skateboard, dog tag (?) and the banner...which I had put in and out of my shopping cart a dozen times! Too bad they didn't throw in that cityscape b/c that was something I had my eye on too.

On the toe front...
E*...RIPPED the skin flap off of his toe yesterday evening. When I asked him where the skin was, he replied, "Oh, in the front room, under the couch." Of course...that IS where we put all our discarded skin. Ewwww!

But it looks immensely better. In fact, I had wanted to do that myself but Ken said it should be left alone. I told E that it was baby skin that is now showing and he's pleasantly pleased at that remark.

I went to the coaches meeting on Thursday at the public library. When I found out that is was a very short meeting, I lingered for a few blissful moments among the shelves. After finding a few novels, I perused the periodicals. Today I spent much of the afternoon reading...and learning how to read carefully, again. It has been something that I have lost...careful reading skills. After years of being a bookworm and reading English Literature and other things that make you read carefully, I have fallen out of the habit. Plus now...I am always in a hurry to the next tast on the "to-do list." So today, I put aside whatever might need to be accomplished...and read. Found all sorts of words that I knew and have now forgotten the meaning well enough to tell another soul. So, I'm going to start relearning those words. Relearning and then re-establishing them into my vocabulary. Though, assuredly, I'm not planning on being able to spell them correctly. That was never a strong point of mine!

The book I'm reading now is Villette by Charlotte Bronte

...in which a good part of the dialog is in French. I can pick out a few words...enough to get more through some of the meaning. But I have to rely on the context clues or just blunder along. Quelle dommage! (Though if I can not spell properly in my mother tongue, I am not going to spell well in another."

E's Toe...another injured digit

This morning, I was going to make Evan and myself some pancakes. He went down to layout all the items needed...while I used the bathroom. I heard him start screaming for a bandaid and hurried down. He was sitting in the front foyer at the bottom of the stairs, hollering for a bandaid.

Now when he falls/scrapes ...he needs a bandaid. Whether it is truly neccesary or not. He NEEDS one. As soon as he gets on on the these bloodless scrapes, he's calm again.

Only today...there was certainly reason to scream. I about died. And of course, none of the neighbors or close friends were home. I called my mom on her cell phone and she laughed.

E had caught his toe on the step up from the family room...and there is a big C-shaped cut...right to his nail. It wasn't really open..but it was cut. Ugh. So I cleaned it up with hydrogen peroxide...neosporin...bandaids. Praying the entire time. He wore a sock and covered shoes today.

Fastforward to about an hour ago....

E walks in..says that his bandaid fell off "somewhere." I took a look...

And then called my friend who was trained to be a nurse. UGH..GROSS!

Hopefully it will heal as fast as my poor finger. But I really don't think he can play soccer or go camping. The boys' feet are sopping wet the entire weekend when they camp.

Sounds like he needs some comfort.

Childhood Memories

Saturday, we had back to back soccer games so I packed a picnic lunch for us to enjoy. The games were 11am and 12pm. Eating lunch at 10 isn't going to work and then...waiting until after 1pm isn't either. So...we had PB&J, watermelon and pretzle rods while Con played his game.

While M* and I were sitting and eating, I told her about when I was her age.

Back then, my mom could run into Gray Drug store...which is now RiteAid...to grab a few items while us kids would sit in the car. Alone, unchaperoned, and young. From time to time she would surprise us with a pretzel rod when she got back to the car. I remember they would cost three cents and were stored in a container on the checkout counter. They were not "individually wrapped."

(So...that is the closest picture I could find with a quick google images search.)

I remember trying to suck on it...to make it last. But I'm a cruncher...and well...the CRUNCH came pretty quickly. hehe.

C* won his game...2-1. He has really stepped up his running game and I'm so glad. It was a hard game for the Jet Dragons. The other team had set up a cherry pick...and kept using it. So Coach Mark had to get our kids into a different game plan.

E*'s game time arrived and I was the lone coach. My assitant coach was out of town. So we were down to only 5 players...meaning only one substitute. As soon as we started playing, it started to rain. And it rained pretty steady the entire first quarter. The girls were in shock that we'd play in the rain. I told them, "Pretend you are playing in the shower and keep going!" We got 2 goals before the end of the first quarter. We went to the sidelines for the break and the other coach asked if I wanted to call the game off. Well, I could tell that the parents wanted to keep going b/c it looked like the weather was going to pass in a few minutes. So we agreed to wait it out 5 minutes. While waiting, one of my players left. And with no subs (the other team had 7 or 8 on their team)...we called the game. But...since we were up by 2...I'm still calling it a win. (We also already beat this team earlier.) So, my little Strikers Team is still UNDEFEATED...and yes...I'm very pleased!

Photos to come as soon as I can get them from Ken's digital card.

YW cards

I was asked to help out the Young Women at church make some invitations for a Father/Daughter Activity. How can I resist a "legitimate" reason to stamp! Plus, with my finger injury, I was out of commission for a week. Tonight, I whipped up these simple cards as examples for the girls.

Six cards in about 90 minutes is amazingly fast for me! haha. It's pretty late here so the photos are not the best. But they are simple and cute...but hopefully not TOO cute for the girls.

I'm it!

Renee of MyLife'sInkyEscape tagged me. I was going to wait until tomorrow but was bored...so here I go!

1) Ten years ago: I was a newlywed teaching art and music at Gibson School for the Gifted. While it was supposed to be a school for bright kids, I found them to be snarky, rude and full of attitude! I told the director that I was done right before spring break...she begged me to stay through the school year. Which I did b/c I am someone who finishes what I start...even though it was a miserable experience.

2) 5 things in todays ”to do”-list- : Well, Sundays are a day of rest so my to do list is going to run into Monday.
A. Get in on the Hatch Family Sunday night IM chat...so fun to hear what everyone is up to since we live far apart.
Tomorrow:
B. Go to the post office to mail some stamp sets that I've sold or traded. If you are interested in my list, click here.
C. Mop the kitchen floor. It was bad before I cut my finger...and my injury delayed it for a week. So you can imagine what a state the floor is now!
D. Get ready for my last Brownie Meeting...yeah.

E. Go to the last Pack Meeting of the year and watch C* become a Bear Cubscout! Growl!

3) Snacks I enjoy: Fresh hot chocolate chip cookies, right out of the oven...nothing better. Esp. when you can eat the dough along while you bake!

4) Things I would do if I was a millionaire: Buy a block of houses in Sheffield Lake...from 809 to 3830...Knock them down...and rebuild...and move the entire family there. haha. More realistically, send my parents on a riverboat cruise, have an awesome stamp/craft room and never sell any more stamps and buy Nesties without hesitation, buy a puppy for the Kennedy family...Actually I could go on and on. hehe.

5) Places I have lived:
Sheffield Lake, OH (aka Paradise)
Oxford, OH
Bamberg Germany
Centerville, OH
Bellville, Westland, Canton, Orion, MI

Now...who will be next? I did lose my bookmarks and I haven't found everyone's blog yet. Here are five:

Terry
Rhonda
