Urban Fairies

For those who are now interested in fairy doors:

http://www.urban-fairies.com/

is the best site...esp. for fairies naitive to Ann Arbor, MI. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the various locations. There is even one at the Google Building in Ann Arbor. Wow!

Fairy Doors

Barb wanted some links for fairy doors. Interestingly enough, someone who looks to be an expert with this phenomenom posted a comment yesterday to my blog. Although his blog, U.F.O (the urban fairies operations), hasn't been updated in a while, it looks as if there is a bunch of info. He seems to be a published author too...so I'll have to see if I can find the book.

I just typed fairy doors into the google search engine. (Ooh, I was just at Michael's and forgot to look for doors! doh!) I also PMed my good fairy lover, or rather faerey lover, Jessica of Faerey Wings and Stamping Things. And SHE didn't know about them either. So I don't feel so bad.

It's dreadfully cold out there today....why didn't I remember to look for the doors! I was even walking around a bit b/c I had to go to the dollar store that didn't open until 10am...and I didn't want to stand out in the blustery wind that kept me up all night.

Okay, okay. I"ll just have to remember the next time!

On an early post,

Jan Scholl said...
Come the nice weather, you should go to Ann Arbor and do the fairy door tour
here is the site for more info but I bet she would love it (and some great outdoor dining too!)

"What??? There are fairy doors?!?" I said to my mom after telling her that school has been canceled due to "weather conditions." And in Ann Arbor...not too far, far away! Fairy doors. We must get a fairy door! M* is eager too. Of course Mom knew about these little passage ways for years. Thinking no one cared, she didn't tell us. Is she not reading this blog! haha.

Ken wanted to know "what weather conditions?" as he was walking out the door for work. I told him to stay home for an hour. But he had an 8:30 meetings. I said, "Skip that one." Then he said, "And a meeting at 9am." Which means, it's non stop meetings all day. I think that is how it goes when you are the project manager for the largest and newest powertrain project that EDS has...and "Maybe even the world." That was the latest bit of news about his job. I only get it in snippets and usually if I over hear him talking about it to someone else!

Definitely, we need a fairy door. M* wants one for the front of the house and/or her room. I want one on the book case...wait, we don't really have a book case out in the public area. My friend M* has columns in her foyer area...she needs a door on the column...it would make a really nice home for a family of fairies.

Meanwhile, I need to figure out when and how to reschedule our Brownie meeting/Investiture Ceremony.

Fairy Nice

Tonight, I suggested to M* that we make a mailbox to leave notes for the fairies. She agreed and this is what we came up with. (While the seam in the paper is noticeable in these pix, in real life, you can barely see it. I must be one of those "the camera adds 10 lbs to you." Only in crafting, it glaringly shows the seams!

And admittedly, O* is probably the most gentle, quiet, timid student in M8's class. So if she had to hear the fairy truth from someone, at least it was from someone who is sweet and a friend.

Black Day

Well, the kids loved the Lego Salt and Pepper shakers that I gave them at dinner time. But after dinner, as I was cleaning up, I learned that one O*, who is in my Brownie Troop and in McK*'s class...TOLD her that her mom was the tooth fairy. Seriously. Any kid who blows it for another kid needs to lose all fairy priviledges.

Pretty much, I'm not even sure what DD thinks/knows right now. But I definitely told her, "If you stop believing then fairies stop coming."

Part of me thinks she wants it to me. Part of her wants it to be a fairy. I said I was going to put up signs outside and on the rough that said "No Fairies Allowed." And she was NOT HAPPY!

Luckily, the boys still seem to be totally happy with fairy land. At least I know DD will play along whether or not she fully understands.

50th Anniversary!

Well, well, well...wouldn't you know!

I was searching around the net to find out information about the passing of the leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who died last night. While many members are sadden by his passing, I think that it must be a great relief. Gordon B. Hinckley has lived a long life serving God, serving others and setting an example to others to live in a peaceful, loving way. After living an honorable life, he now returns to his Father in Heaven and see those loved ones who have gone before.

Some people want to live forever or at least a long time. My sister Cara is like that. I on the other time, don't really want to grow old. I'd rather die earlier than later.

I went to google, everyone's favorite search engine. Today their heading was made out of LEGOS! The favorite toy of choice these days for DS #1. It turns out that today is the 50 anniversary for the Lego Brick!

I certainly have a day full of getting ready to serve others myself. I need to take E to school, find out if I need to watch someone's daughter, go shopping for cheese for a dinner for an injured friend, buy supplies for Brownies and supplies for Cub Scout recognition trophies, sew on DD's patches, make that dinner, clean the house, continue with the never ending stream of laundry, make the trophies, prepare craft for Brownies....

If you are a mother, then I think you know that this list is just not going to end.
