Another card to share

Last night, I watched the CoCreators of LOST rehash the entire sequence of events in the story line...up to the present day. They brought up a couple of things. The survivors are not dead, just somewhere in the time/space continum. Jack is not giving up on Kate...he made her promise not to go back and rescue him b/c he loved her. Juliette misinterprets these words to mean something else. Locke want to stay on the Island and keep everyone else on it too. In one way or another, all the survivors are HEROS b/c they rise to the occasion and take care of one another. These people have had to really change who they were in the past, now that they are living on the island.

It was a good refresher. I should have thought to have DH burn a copy for my BIL. But, all this information still supports my friend's DH's LOST theory.

After LOST ended, I checked to see if the challenge was up...and sure enough, it was. Jen70's lists on Friday LSC challenges seem to through me off. Added to the fact that I'm usually too busy to stamp on Fridays, stamping the LSC for me is rare. But the challenge was up...it was only 11pm...so I went down and quickly made a card.

I think it was flower power b/c the layout/colors/images just flowed...very quickly (for me). Now, to be able to make cards the fast on a regular basis!

John John the Boom!

This afternoon, I was chatting on the phone with my BIL S*. He and my sister are expecting their 2nd child any day now. He was on speaker phone and I was asking my kids to guess the baby's gender and suggest a name. E* said boy with the name of Papa. M*'s friend M* said a girl named Gabriella. I was telling E* that Papa's name was Papa...this baby needed a different name. S* chimed in "like John John the Boom." Wow...a funny incident that I had forgotten!

After Ken and I went to the ultra sound for E*, I went to pick up my kids from a friend's house. We told the kids that they were going to have a brother and asked "what should we call him?" Three year old C* piped up, "John John the Boom." We and all our friends got a chuckle over that one. And for a short time, we referred to our baby in utero as "John John the Boom."

Thanks for the reminder, S*. You make a great historian. Espcially since he was only dating my sister at the time. See J*, he was listening!! What a catch!

Blog Challenge

A while ago on some blog, there was a challenge to make a black and white card with a splash of color. Of course, I don't remember what blog it was on. (So let me know if it was yours!) Here is my card:

Splitcoast challenges...

You probably know that Splitcoaststampers has daily challenges. But did you know that small groups within the community often challenge each other? There are those who are encourage others to send out RAKs, Keep up with the house cleaning, Lose weight, Figure out the meaning behind the tv show "LOST" and many other things. Not too long ago, a few of us stalkers were talking about stamps and stuff. Stargirl won an auction of stamps on ebay. Among the collection was some outdated Stampin Up images. One thing lead to another...and there is a mini challenge going on to use this stamp image in an updated way. I don't know the name of the stamp set but when I do I'll post it...along with the picture. (I didn't take a pix of it before starting on my cards.) Stargirl mailed out 2 images to those who signed up for the challenge. Pattyb is encouraging us and started a thread. Submissions must be up by midnight on the 15th.

This poor little angel girl needed to be a bit more grounded so I clipped her wings. Then using the 2nd image, I made templates to revamp her smock. A lovely origami paper was pulled out for the job. I used the colors from the origami paper for my card...yet, it needed more. So, I made her cheeks a bit more rosy and added the pink ribbon and primas. Squeezed on a bit of gold stickles to the punches, piercings and dimensionals...and Presto Magic...a more modern angel girl.

I really wanted to try this again since I liked the outcome. But I had cut up the other image. What else could I do? I made her clothes into a "Baby Bella." hehe. I think it is darling!!! And might give it to DD. Only she is the one with light colored straight hair and I have the dark colored curly hair.

Either way...I'm blessed to have such fun and challenging cyber friends. To see all the entries, follow this link.

Mother's Day 2007

Yesterday, DH came home with 2 dozen large and colorful roses for me. They were so big and there were so many, that I put them in 4 vases...large vases all around the house.

(I didn't take this picture...DH did...not the best arrangement. He must have taken it after I took out some flowers. But you get the idea of what they looked like. Blogs need pictures, you know!)

Most of my great ideas come in the last minute time frame. This morning before church, I was thinking of my friend R* who is a divorced mother of three with little support from her ex. Her kids are young and there wasn't going to be a Dad to take the kids to buy gifts or make dinner for the family. Since I was going to cut one of the flowers to make a corsage for myself, I thought I'd make one for her too. Well, then I got to thinking about another older woman at church who is a bit misunderstood and comes across rather grumpy. Her son probably can't function enough to make her day special so I made a corsage for CE*. Well, of course, I have 24 large roses...which will just die in a few days. So, though I was raced for time, I was able to get 8 corsages made. We left for church a little later than usual. With frizzy, air-dried hair, I walked into the chapel a few minutes before church began.

(This picture taken after it was worn through out church...so not as fresh as a daisy! hehe.)

I hurried up to the front pew where CE* sits alone each week. I said, "CE* I made this corsage for you. Happy Mother's Day." You can imagine her surprise and delight. I offered to pin it on to her blouse and she accepted, as long as I didn't stick her with a pin. She asked if everyone was getting one. I answered, "Just a few of my friends" with a smile. A Hallmark moment!

I gave one corsage to a woman going through a divorce from a rather demanding man. Another one to a woman who said, "I'm not a mother. Just a step-mother." I said, "Step-mothers count. You are a part of the family and take care of those kids. Enjoy YOUR day!" as I pinned the corsage onto her shirt. My divorced friend was delighted to receive a corsage and wear it around. Unfortuanetly in this day and age, not too many mothers had corsages on. I saw only three today in church. By the time the flowers were all passed out, there were 8 more woman bedecked with sweet smelling roses.

At first, when DH handed me the flowers, I thought, "Oh dear. Flowers are sort of a waste. Sure they are nice but they aren't lasting and will be dead in a few days. Surely he could of bought something more lasting." As my day progressed, I was able to give cheer to ladies in my church. Some who probably really needed cheering up. I realized that although those flowers will no doubt be dead soon and tossed out, the feelings of charity and love can last far longer than a plucked flower.

And that's just a part of the "Mother's Day Spirit." If there can be a Spirit of Christmas, then I'm sure there is one for Mother's Day too. My mother takes care of my aging grandfather and my over worked Dad, both phsically and emotionally. She looked after 5 of her own kids and many others through her in-home day care business that lasted many, many years. She sacrificed, loved, taught and cherished all the people in her life. That's the Spirit of Mother's Day...To sacrifice for others, to love others, to nurture and care for others. Most importantly...to leave a lasting impression of Charity. That's what Motherhood is all about.

Comissioned Artist

It's been a while since I was a commissioned artist. And boy, was it fun! Last week I posted pictures of the gift sets that I made for my DS and DD's teachers. I was contacted by someone who was willing to pay me for a set...which then turned into three! Here are pictures of what I made for her. The polka dot and paisley/petals set is for an elelmentary teacher and includes:

clipboard
spiral notebook (medium size)
clippie
post it note holder
pen
card with matching envie

The Wild About You set was for a preschool teacher. I made two of these sets which include:

post - it note holder
pen
card with matching envie
topper and cello bag
stamped white bag to hold all the goodies

The first set turned out so lovely that I can barely bring myself to mailing it away. My mom wants a set for herself too. I guess I'll keep making them. The second set was really fun. Great for preschool teachers.
